Sleeping Bag Testimonials

Clearwater - I wanted to write to tell you about my recent experience with Alps gear.  We learned about your company from the National Order of the Arrow Conference in 2006 at Michigan State.  We met Sarah there and enjoyed visiting with her.  Shortly after the NOAC we took advantage of your NOAC special through Scout Direct.  I was outfitting 3 people (myself and my 2 boys) for a backpacking trip this June at the new Double H High Adventure Base in West Central New Mexico.  We used your Denali packs and Clearwater sleeping bags.  Some of our crew had other Alps gear.  The gear performed great! Please thank all the crew at Alps so much for making and selling such great gear and especially for making your quality gear available to Boy Scouts at such great prices.  It would have been very difficulty financially for me to outfit 3 people for our trip without Alps!  Our trip was fantastic and we spread the word all the time amoung our Scouting friends about how great Alps is and how much they love Scouts.  Thanks so much. Jim L.

We sure don't want you to think that our bags are not as good as our tents and packs, but we just haven't gotten that many comments back on our bags. This isn't a true testimonial, but we've probably sold more units of sleeping bags than we have either packs or tents ... and I'm not aware of any complaints.

If you have any "stories" about our bags that you want to share with us, please pass them along.

We took 7 Scouts and 3 leaders on the LENHOK’SIN High Adventure Trail at Goshen Scout Reservation this July and in preparation for this I ordered a new sleeping pad and sleeping bag liner. The two other adults took the classic backpacking foam pads. Their comments on the extra weight I had to carry soon gave way to envy when I got a good night’s sleep every night and they woke up the next morning complaining about the rock or root they found under their tent.. The temperature was so hot, that all I used at night was the sleeping bag liner. Both items functioned perfectly and the sleeping pad was the best investment I’ve made in some time.

Blue Ridge - For the campout this past weekend at Old Rag Mountain, I purchased a mummy style sleeping bag, the Blue Ridge. The sleeping bag I purchased is a "Wide" design, rated to negative twenty degrees. Even without a groundpad (I let someone use mine) I was warm throughout the night. The wide design is great for those of us who like a little more room than the standard sleeping bag width provides. The sleeping bag also has two drawstrings near the top. One is just like most mummy style sleeping bags, intended to close off the sleeping bag to retain the body heat that is lost when using sleeping bags that do not close at the top. The second one is to close around the shoulders/neck similarly to help retain body heat. Finally, the sleeping bag has two zippers to allow for creating an opening near the feet to help control the temperature from getting too warm. One last thing, the stuff sack is just the right size. Many stuff sacks are too small, making it difficult for young people (and older ones too) to get the bags into the sacks. The stuff sack also comes with two straps to help the sleeping bag stay in the stuff sack (many sleeping bags eventually will slowly crawl out of the stuff sack after a period of time - especially during longer backpacking trips.)

On the recent campout at Pokagon, at least 5 people had Alps sleeping bags (most had the 0 degree bags) and all reported that they stayed very warm in the below freezing temperatures. I was one of those people and after being cold at the Orienteering Campout, I was glad to have my new Alps bag. Several of the boys have Alps backpacks, using them for most of the campouts and the 10 mile backpacking trip, and are very happy with them. I have an Alps tent and love it. It is well built and much easier to setup than my old tent. Simply put we get very good equipment at dirt cheap prices through Alps. Thanks.

Welcome back - I trust your trip was a success!  I was able to visit and get some gear from Brian before our trip last weekend.  Please thank LaRayne and Brian on our behalf.  Would you please review the details from that and make sure everything is correct?  The gear worked great!  We had a true freeze-out (high temp was 27 degrees).  The boys with your sleeping bags raved about not getting cold, and the backpacking went well, also.
