Pack Testimonials
Red Tail 4500 - Just wanted to let you, as a parent, how much I appreciate your Red Tail pack's high quality and reliability. In addition to many weekend trips, my son used it for a two week trek at Philmont. Then, the night before my daughter's 50 mile trek in the UP, Michigan, she switched out her pack and used her brother's Red Tail instead. They both feel that they had the best designed and most comfortable pack in their scout crews. And, after all of the wear and tear from teenagers' use, there has been no structural problems - - it even still looks like new! Thanks! Theresa
Denali 4500 - I wanted to write to tell you about my recent experience with Alps gear. We learned about your company from the National Order of the Arrow Conference in 2006 at Michigan State. We met Sarah there and enjoyed visiting with her. Shortly after the NOAC we took advantage of your NOAC special through Scout Direct. I was outfitting 3 people (myself and my 2 boys) for a backpacking trip this June at the new Double H High Adventure Base in West Central New Mexico. We used your Denali packs and Clearwater sleeping bags. Some of our crew had other Alps gear. The gear performed great! Please thank all the crew at Alps so much for making and selling such great gear and especially for making your quality gear available to Boy Scouts at such great prices. It would have been very difficulty financially for me to outfit 3 people for our trip without Alps! Our trip was fantastic and we spread the word all the time amoung our Scouting friends about how great Alps is and how much they love Scouts. Thanks so much. Jim L.
Synergy 40 - Just wanted to say thanks for your good service and great products. The Synergy day pack I ordered was used daily at scout camp for a week without a hitch. Then I used it for an overnighter (not it's design intent) and it worked fine carrying about 25-30 pounds. The Mystique 1.5 tent fit inside with my summer sleeping bag compressed in your cyclone stuff sack along with my cook kit & stove, clothing, food, etc. The Mystique 1.5 tent kept me dry during the all night rain and I slept soundly with plenty of room for me and the Synergy pack inside. I'm looking forward to more simple and lightweight overnight backpacking trips with your gear. Bryce L.
The buckles and strapping you sent me fit PERFECTLY. Thanks so much for taking care of this special order, and for all the phone conversations to make it right. The speedy delivery was in time for our scout outing. I’ll get the first set of buckles in the mail in the next few days.
You represent a company that cares about its customers. Gary B.
Just thought I would drop you a note to tell you what a great line of products you have. Boy Scout Troop 110 from Hanover, Pa. just recently completed a two year hiking project of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. The tow path is 185 miles from Washington DC. To Cumberland, Md., through all kinds of weather your backpacks and tents preformed head and shoulders above the other packs and tents that started our trek. It seems that by the time we finished the canal the boys and dads that started with other brands of packs and tents have switched to ALPS packs and tents. We have never let the weather stop us and with your gear we can keep right on hiking and camping in the rain and snow. During our trek we have been blessed with many a rainy and a one or two snowy nights and as long as we were sleeping in our ALPS tents and sleeping bags we have stayed dried and warm. We now have boys that only carry ALPS gear from day packs to carry school books in to the floor saver for their tents. The boys and adults of Troop 110 that have used your gear tell everyone they come in contact about what a great product you have. When our Troop heads to Philmont in June of 2007 ALPS gear will be going with us. If not for your Scout pricing some of our boys might not have had the opportunity to own such quality equipment. Thank you Again thank you and your staff for offering a great product at a great price.
Yours in Scouting

Just a note of thanks for the excellent service from your company. I am currently deployed in Afghanistan and my wife ordered a backpack for my youngest son after I recieved the November newsletter. She tells me it arrived in just 3 days just in time for his first campout.
Thank you for your support of my family while I am away and making simple everyday things just that.
As a fellow Missourian I appreciate your business doing everything it promises, supporting Scouting and my family. Especially while I am away.
If I may, I do have a suggestion for a new product. We move by helicopter almost everywhere here. Many of us use small commercial day packs to store our gear while moving FOB to FOB. However, because of the bulk of winter gear, a small day pack just won't make it... We end up hanging things off the outside. We could sure use an internal backpack made just like a commercial backpack in the new ACU Foliage green color. At your prices they would be snapped up like hotcakes.
Thanks again! LT "A"

Cascade - I wanted to pass on some positive feedback on two fantastic products I bought under the scouting program from Alps Mountaineering. Ive been backpacking since I was a scout in the 80s including some pretty hefty trips up Mt Washington in NH; Im now a Scout Master with Troop 347 Huntingtown MD. I received my Taurus 2 tent and Cascade pack within a week of ordering, your sales folks were extremely pleasant to work with. I was referred to Alps by one of my fellow scout masters who I had the opportunity to back pack with through the Shenandoah mountains. I was impressed with his Alps Pack and questioned him about it.
The Cascade pack is the most comfortable pack Ive ever worn. The fanny pack is very usable by itself and the quality of construction of the pack is excellent. The pack is slightly small at 5500 cubic inches for winter camping, but easily accommodates storing the tent on the outside vice inside. Again this is an outstanding pack, with excellent quality of construction.
Ive owned many pieces of backpacking gear from all the major name brands, but none have been as well constructed and offered at such a great price as Alps Mountaineering. I also wanted to say thanks for supporting scouting! Ron C.
The internal (forgot the name but it starts with an O) that my son wanted is beyond belief. He couldnt be happier. He must have spent an hour showing me all the features and pockets. The day pack I ordered is just the size I wanted. We are going on a campout this weekend and Im going to try to get everything into the smaller pack and travel light.
Great product. Gary M.
Red Tail, Nighthawk and Mystique 1.5 - We just returned from our trek to Philmont last Friday. Crew 709-L2 owes you and Scout Direct and Alps Mountaineering a profound thank you - job well done! All of your gear - two Red Tails, a Nighthawk and my Mystique 1.5 worked much better than expected or advertised. Each of the guys using the Red Tails carried more than 50 pounds of gear for 10 days and the Nighthawk user was over 60 pounds. Philmont was the first serious test and the packs were spectacular. What load haulers! The ease and depth of adjustment and lots of room made life easy on the trail. No sore shoulders here either.
Since I was the eleventh crew member, I took my Mystique 1.5 - a very good decision. I was easily the first to be set up and first to be packed - not bad for an ol' geezer of 55 to beat these savvy kids. Morning temps in the high 40's and low 50's were perfect for me to open the fly and get plenty of crisp ventilation. Despite the daily rains around 4 p.m., I stayed absolutely dry. We had a fair storm one day and I still kept warm and dry even with 30 knot winds. What you have is a gem of a product. Anyone who doesn't give Alps products a try is missing out on the finest gear available at any price.
I included a couple of photos of our crew leaving Carson Meadows. This was a new camp at Philmont this year and I could ponder life from the comfort of my Mystique as I looked out over a meadow about a mile wide and 5 miles long.
I can't tell you how much you folks mean to Scouting. Simply stated, there is no one, anywhere, who gives more, that allows kids and adults to make these adventures. Whether you're headed to a state park or the wilderness, you couldn't have a better friend than Scout Direct and Alps Mountaineering. May God bless and keep you always.

I wanted to say how pleased I am with the items I've purchased from ALPS. The pack, tent, bag and pad are all second to none in price and quality.

Thank you for you scouting support by providing superior, high-quality products at a fantastic value. The Scouts definitely benefit and rest assured with my "mouth of the south" the entire Scout Council will hear plenty of positive feedback for ALPS. Thanks again.

Just wanted to thank you guys for the Scouts Program. I received my Night Hawk backpack last week. I have been looking for a suitable replacement ever since I had to give up my Red Tail to my son. The cost and value can not be beat! I can't wait to try it out although I may have to wait until the weather clears up a bit. I wish I had know about your program earlier, last month we purchased five, 2-person tents from REI. We could have saved a bundle through you guys. Thanks for your support to Scouting. Jim P.
I own an Alps internal frame backpack that is very similar to the new night hawk pack that you guys offer. I purchased this pack four years ago, just before my dad and I were going to set off to Philmont with our troop to do some good ol' trekking. I still use this pack today, and it has survived every tumble down a cliff, every rain storm, every blizzard, and every trail I've been on. I recently finnished a short 50 mile section hike on the Appalachian Trail, and my Alps pack was there with me every step of the way. I hope to keep this pack with me for a long time, it seems to last very well. This pack also has great sentimental value with me, because of all the trips I have taken with it and all the times it has been my life force. The outdoors is my life, I work at REI in St. Louis, MO, and all I ever do is either go hiking, rock climbing, or mountain biking. I would like to say thank you for producing such a great backpack, and running such a great company. Thanks!
sincerely,
Jeremy S.
Just got back From our trek at Philmont and I wanted to drop you a line to tell you how great your Redtail and Nighthawk packs worked for us. Seven of twelve of our crew members had Alps backpacks and they were excellent. If you remember I had written you requesting some spare parts and buckles in case something broke on the trail. The spare buckles came in handy when one of our sister crew's Jansport buckle broke and I had a spare for him. We had no such problems with the Alps packs. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for the ScoutDirect pricing that made it possible to outfit most of our crew with these reliable, comfortable packs.
Sincerely, Patrick F.
My Troop and I were on a backpacking trip here in Arizona in January ('03). We passed another Troop and several of their boys started talking. Finally one asked me why we all seemed to have the same packs? I stopped, looked at my Troop and noticed that we do have a majority of your Redtail packs. The leaders came over and were curious also, so I told them about ScoutDirect and our great experiences with your product. I think the Troop was from Flagstaff. They had some old externals so hopefully you'll be hearing from them soon.
Thanks for the great product, excellent pricing and continued support of Scouting.
